Reflecting on the Care & Support West Conference 2025

23 June 2025

What a day we had at the Care & Support West Conference at Ashton Gate, Bristol last Wednesday 18th June. We came away feeling absolutely inspired… and, if we’re honest, a little exhausted (in the best possible way).

From the very start, Nadra Ahmed CBE set the tone with a rousing talk about the power of positivity in our sector. It’s easy to get weighed down by the challenges in care, but Nadra reminded us that we’re stronger when we face them together, and with hope.

Helen England and Janis from Brandon Trust were a real highlight. Hearing about The Adventurers – people supported by Brandon who are now working in paid roles to advocate for autistic people and those with learning disabilities – was genuinely moving. The energy and pride in the room were infectious… I don’t think I’ve ever clapped so much before.

Mei-Ling Huang also gave us plenty to think about with her honest (and often witty) breakdown of the CQC’s current position. There were laughs, but also some sobering truths… her talk was a real conversation starter.

We had some brilliant chats at our AgoraStaff stand. It was great to connect with so many care professionals and industry experts, all keen to share ideas and advice. There was a real buzz about how we can work together to make recruitment easier for providers and better for carers – giving carers more control, flexibility, and, ultimately, more money in their pockets. That’s what we’re all about… raising standards for everyone.

We left the conference tired but genuinely encouraged. Yes, there are things we may need to change as we go, but the day reaffirmed that we’re on the right track. It’s clear there’s a huge appetite for positive change in the care sector, and we’re excited to be part of it.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by to say hello, share their stories, and offer advice. Here’s to facing the future with optimism – and to making care better, together.
